CULTURAL RESULTS
DEBATE
The Adjudication Workshop focused on the World Schools Style of debating, was held on the 12th of May at Peterhouse Boys. This workshop aimed to equip participants with the skills necessary to adjudicate effectively within this specific format. We explored the vital role of an adjudicator in a debate, emphasising fairness, impartiality, and critical thinking. Emphasis was placed on listening skills, where effective adjudication begins with active listening.
Debaters were advised to always pay attention to the nuances of each argument. A mini debate was held where every debater had the opportunity to listen to both arguments, then gave feedback on what was done well, as well as highlighting weaker areas that needed improving.
The workshop ended with words of encouragement to the debaters that it is not just about winning or losing; it is about learning from each other. Always respect your peers, their opinions, and their hard work. We encouraged the debaters to apply what they learnt in their upcoming debates. The aim was to foster a sense of fairness and impartiality, essential skills in both debates and everyday interactions.
MUN
From Thursday the 15th to Saturday the 17th, our MUN club attended their first conference of the term, CHIMUN, held at Chisipite Senior School. Ten of our girls took part in the conference with 8 of them being delegates in their different rooms and two of them taking up roles as co-chairs. Despite being unable to attend the second day of the conference, the girls showed their continually advancing diplomacy and debating skills in the two days attended.
From meaningful and relevant contributions during lobbying and merging on the first day, to interesting but intense speeches and POI’s on the last day of the conference, our delegates showed their ever-growing zeal and enthusiasm in solving the issues that our world faces today.
