Peterhouse 1st XI cricket tour to Radley College, UK | 10th – 21st April 2025

The Peterhouse Boys School 1st XI cricket team embarked on a memorable cricket tour to Radley College in the United Kingdom from 10 – 21 April 2025. Over the course of 12 days, the team played a series of seven matches, including warm-up fixtures and competitive games against Radley College’s 1st XI, the Radley possibles, and a formidable Petrean side.

The results of the matches were as follows:

Match 1: 50-over vs Radley Possibles

Peterhouse began the tour on a high note with a solid victory against the Radley Possibles. Batting first, they posted a competitive total of 198, thanks largely to a commanding knock of 81 from Victor Watama. In response, Radley were dismissed for 168, with Isaac Hildebrand leading the bowling effort with an impressive 3/15.

Result: Peterhouse won by 30 runs.

Match 2: 50-over vs Petreans (Warm-up Match)

In a keenly contested warm-up fixture against the Old Boys (Petreans), the Peterhouse side narrowly fell short. Callum Scott-Elliot starred with the ball, claiming 4/24 to restrict the Petreans to 146. Despite a fighting 34 from Isheanopa Mutungi, Peterhouse were bowled out for 131.

Result: Peterhouse lost by 15 runs.

Match 3: 40-over vs Radley Possibles

In the third match, Peterhouse faced the Radley Possibles once more. Radley posted a strong total of 221/9, despite a five-wicket haul from Cameron Oosthuizen (5/51). Peterhouse struggled in their reply and were dismissed for 168, falling short of the target.

Result: Peterhouse lost by 53 runs.

Match 4: T20 vs Radley 1st XI

In a closely fought T20 encounter, Radley 1st XI set a modest target of 129/6, with Panashe Fantiso contributing an economical spell of 2/11. Peterhouse chased valiantly, led by a fluent 36 from Victor Watama, but ultimately finished just 8 runs short.

Result: Peterhouse lost by 8 runs.

Match 5: T20 vs Radley 1st XI

Peterhouse bounced back in style in the second T20 match. A dominant batting performance saw them post an imposing 188/2, with Luke Marillier (67) and Tyler Chapman (62) leading the charge. The bowlers then kept Radley to 142/7, with Callum Scott-Elliot picking up 3/25.

Result: Peterhouse won by 46 runs.

Match 6: 2-Day Match vs Radley 1st XI

In the tour’s longest format, both sides showcased their resilience. Radley declared on 214/8 in the first innings, with Luke Marillier taking 3/12. Peterhouse responded strongly, posting 286/9 declared, thanks to contributions from Victor Watama (49) and Isaac Hildebrand (42). In Radley’s second innings, they reached 240/9, with Cameron Oosthuizen taking 5/30 and Liam Whaley 3/54 in a thrilling finish.

Result: Match drawn.

Match 7: 50-over vs Radley 1st XI

The final match saw Peterhouse deliver a commanding performance. Batting first, they amassed 286/8, with standout innings from Isheanopa Mutungi (73), Luke Marillier (59), and Tyler Chapman (49). Defending the total, the bowlers kept Radley to 259 all out, with Marillier (3/34) and Tafadzwa Kashaya (3/45) leading the attack.

Result: Peterhouse won by 27 runs.

Series Result

Peterhouse emerged victorious in the overall series, clinching the final match to secure the tour win. The team demonstrated resilience, adaptability to foreign playing conditions, and a strong team spirit throughout the tour.

Player Awards

A number of players delivered exceptional performances during the tour. The following individuals were recognized for their outstanding contributions:

•       Best Bowler: Cameron Oosthuizen

•       Best Batsman: Victor Watama

•       Most Valuable Player: Luke Marillier

CULTURAL RESULTS

STEM: Chisipite Science Fair – 7 April

The STEM boys participated in the Chisipite Science Fair at the end of last term, under the theme ‘Medical Advancements in Science and Technology’.

In the junior category, Tadanaishe Gwangwadza and Dian Nyamayaro came first and won a prize money of US$100. 

In the intermediate category, Kudakwashe Chifamba, Joshua Wekwete, Tanaka Chiromo and Ethan Hinds won and scooped a prize money of US$100. 

Well done to all the boys who took part in the Science fair for their spirited efforts.

MODEL UNITED NATIONS – Chisipite – “Encouraging nations to unlock their full potential through self-empowerment”.

On Thursday the 15th and Saturday the 17th of May, fifteen PHB delegates tackled various issues such as:

The impact of gender disparity in international football,

Addressing the persecution of ethnic minorities in China and

Evaluating the consequences of USA foreign aid cuts on global HIV/AIDS programmes.

Kaystone Hlongwane was awarded the Best Position Paper.

HALF COLOURS

For participation in Mash Pairs for Bridge, placing Top 4 Couples in the B Room and coming 1st, Half Colours for Bridge are awarded to Takudzwa Jeri & Tinashe Masaka.

FULL COLOURS

Takudzwa Jeri also receives Full Colours in World Scholar’s Cup for attending required number of Regional & Global Rounds, as well as Gold medals in the relevant categories.

As captain of the Bridge club and holder of Half Colours, Blessed Matsikidze came 4th in the A Room for Mash Pairs earning him Full Colours.

Full Colours in Bridge are also awarded to Tadiwa Chamuka for playing in the A Room for Mash Pairs.

The following students have shown exemplary dedication and consistency in all areas of their school lives to complete their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award. They have shown a willingness to improve themselves in physical Recreation, skills and service to others. As well as planning and completing 2 adventurous Journeys which have helped them improve their communication, and problem-solving abilities whilst developing life skills which will help them in their future endeavours.
