PASTIS
To commemorate International Women’s Day, the PASTIS club held a Women’s Rally. Girls from three schools were in attendance: Chisipite Senior School, Marondera High School, and Macheke High School. The three speakers, two present and one via video were given two topics to speak about at length. The first topic was Women in Decision-Making Roles, and the second was Empowering Young Women for the Future to Advocate for Their Rights and Embrace Leadership Roles. Each pupil was provided with a purple ribbon as a symbol of thespecial day.
The first speaker, Ms. Rutendo Mangudya (Petrean 2012), kept the girls engaged with a well-articulated talk on women in decision-making. She discussed types of decisions, assertiveness, and learning how to make decisions at an early age, and concluded with the value of women in decision-making. Her talk was followed shortly by Mrs. Quin Sowa, who spoke on the same topic. She recounted her personal experiences and how she was able to rise to the great heights she has achieved.
The final presentation for the day was a video from Ms. Sibonile Dube, who shared her vast experience, linking it to the topic. She encouraged the girls to advocate for their rights, be people of integrity, serve their communities, and not be fearful of occupying global spaces. The girls learned a lot and, hopefully, all left with a nugget of wisdom from the event.
