Peterhouse Girls – Newsletter 12 – Michaelmas 2023

Dear Parents and Guardians

There is much to celebrate at school as we end this term and reflect on the progress and growth of our girls.
But it is also a chance to look ahead and anticipate new beginnings and exciting challenges. We have said
goodbye to the VIth Form in a process that is emotionally demanding: the immense gratification of seeing
the girls move on is matched equally by the sadness of letting them go. But we have also welcomed in the
new pupil leadership team, and I can’t wait to engage with their positive energy and creative ideas in the new
year. The foundation of our leadership programme is service to others; it is a weighty responsibility and one
our new Prefects embrace wholeheartedly.

Of course, the girls are not the only ones who move up and on in the school, and as the year ends, I would
like to extend my thanks and appreciation to all the parents who have engaged with us, given us their time
and supported us. I am particularly grateful to the outgoing Chair of the PA, Michelle Exton, her Deputy,
Nigel Weller and their team for their contributions, renewed vision and for their invaluable commitment to
our school community.

The Lent term for 2024 begins on Tuesday 9 January and is set to end on Wednesday 27 March. Could I
encourage you all to plan with these dates in mind. We work in the classrooms right up until the last day, and
early departures do have an impact on learning.

As we end this school year, I leave you with this message from Isaiah 9:6 which says.

“For unto us a child is born,
To us a son is given,
And the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

In all the chaos and frenzied energy of the holiday season, it represents one of the most profound moments
in human history. In our familiarity with the story of Jesus’ birth, may we never forget just what it means
that He is finally here.

May your Christmas be a blessed, happy, and family-filled time.

Warmest regards,

Claire Hough
