ACADEMIC DINNER

Congratulations to the following girls who attended the joint PHB-PHG dinner on 13^th September in celebration of their consistently high academic endeavour over the past year:

B Block – Jemimah Durham, Ashleigh Lamb, Nicole Lufeli, Makanakaishe Lusiyano and Alyssa Zindi

Vth Form – Panashe Dhoba, Tayana Machawira, Yorina Mugadhi and Sharae Trewartha

VIth Form – Keira Findlay, Kimberley Guzha, Natsai Mandimutsira, Munashe Matsuro, and Gabrielle Mukuro

A wonderful evening was had, compèred by our Peterhouse academic prefects Munashe Matsuro and Michael Fowlds, ably supported by PHB Senior Scholar Bradley Munyanyiwa. We were delighted to host our VIth Form parents and everyone enjoyed delicious, elegantly presented food.

The guest speaker, Dr Barbara Hosack, gave an inspiring and thought-provoking speech, in which she shared from her own impressive life journey to encourage us to remember that some of the most valuable things we gain from our time at Peterhouse will never appear on a certificate.  She acknowledged the diligent and hard-won achievements of all those present who consistently attained top grades this year, but urged all to remember that, whilst academic achievements open doors, failures often teach more than successes. She also noted how sporting, cultural and service endeavours are not separate from our academic life but strengthen it and help teach endurance and consistency.

Dr Hosack concluded with a challenge to broaden our definitions of success: to take sport seriously, develop our spirituality, invest in friendships and be curious!  She reminded us, that years from now, we may not remember the exact mark received in a particular exam, but may remember the friend who stood beside us, the team we were part of, the concert we were terrified to perform in, the teacher who believed in us, or just the moment when something went wrong, and we found a way through it.  She ended with the challenge that whilst our academic results may open doors, it is the person who we become that will determine what we do once we walk through them.

D BLOCK PARENT-TEACHER CONSULTATION

Our teachers were delighted to be able to connect with D Block parents at consultation on Friday, 25^th September. In a short presentation beforehand, details of the language continuum used to describe behaviour was shared with our D Block parent body.  Please get in touch with your daughter’s housemistress Mrs Robb with any further queries on this.
