Peterhouse Girls Newsletter 5 – Trinity 2024

FROM: THE HEADMISTRESS
Dear Parents and Guardians,

The new school term has begun with a flurry of activity in and out the classroom. The Trinity Term is an
extremely busy one academically, culturally, and on the sports field and there will be much to celebrate and
reflect on as we immerse ourselves in these pursuits.

We recently celebrated Mothers’ Day – a day not only to acknowledge the mothers and mother-figures on
our campus, but also to recognise the incredible mothers beyond our gates. Their dedication to the well-being
of our girls serves as a powerful model for our community. Mothers’ Day also gives us a chance to celebrate
women in general and gives the girls role models to aspire to.

Next weekend we have our Kidzcan run/walk and fundraiser and I wholeheartedly encourage everyone to
come out and participate. Whether you walk or run, your presence contributes to a wonderful cause. The
walks and runs are tailored to meet different fitness levels; afterwards we invite you to stay on to braai and
spend time with your children and other Peterhouse families. This day exemplifies the Peterhouse ethos of
servant leadership and a commitment to making a positive impact beyond our immediate circle.

At Peterhouse we are acutely aware of the blessed environment we live in, but we observe that many people
in and outside our country face immense hurdles. I came across the following prayer that, as Africa Day
approaches, I felt was pertinent to us all,
Prayer for Africa by Wayne Visser
Africa is the drumbeat of Your heart
Therefore, grant me courage
To offer comfort and compassion
In the face of her people’s trials
To the prisons of poverty in Africa
Let me bring the liberation of choice
And to the deserts of her suffering
Cool streams of relief
To the tunnels of deception in Africa
Let me bring lamps of truth
And to the jungles of her conflict
Flags of reconciliation
To the caves of despair in Africa
Let me bring voices of hope
And to the swamps of her fear
Whispers of comfort
Wherever Africa teaches her children
Share the lessons of my fading past
And where she dreams of tomorrow
Set my feet on the path of progress

I wish you all a blessed fixture free weekend with your children and hope that it will be a time to recharge,
connect, and find joy in the simple moments. Unfortunately, the roads remain a trial and, as always, we pray
for safe travels.

Warm regards,
Mrs Claire Hough
