FROM: THE HEADMISTRESS
Dear Parents and Guardians,
At Peterhouse Girls we are feeling a collective sense of relief, our external examinations are almost complete,
with only a few papers remaining. I want to commend our exam candidates for their calm focus and maturity
throughout this exam season, and we look forward to results that are worthy of their good efforts.
Our recent Speech Day was a wonderful celebration of the achievements of our girls, their teachers, and
coaches. They have excelled in academics, the cultural arena, and on the sports field. Congratulations to
everyone involved! I would also like to extend my gratitude to our Head Girl, Aneni Chigwedere, our Deputy
Head Girl, Anike Mparuri, and the Prefect Body of 2024 for their dedicated service to our school. If you were
unable to attend Speech Day, please take a moment to read Aneni’s speech included at the end of this
newsletter.
As the school year draws to an end, we have had a chance to celebrate some special occasions, none more so
than the farewell for the VIth Form of 2024. The Leavers Service and Lunch are memorable occasions where
we honour and celebrate the time the girls have spent at the school. As a gift to commemorate this and welcome
the leavers into the Petrean Society, the girls are each presented with a Petrean pendant, which we hope they
will wear proudly in the years to come. I am grateful to Petrean Isabel Samkange who joined us to address the
girls with words of wisdom and encouragement; her message is one I hope the girls will take with them as they
depart through our gates for the final time as pupils of Peterhouse Girls.
Next week, the A Block will head to West Nicholson, and we wish them and the accompanying staff safe
travels and a happy camping experience. Worthy character is something that we are dedicated to drawing out
in our girls, and these adventurous journeys that the girls embark on are some of the most challenging yet
enriching experiences the girls will get in their time with us. I would like to encourage the girls with a quote
that has helped me through challenges in the past, “the only difference between an adventure and an ordeal is
your attitude.”
The rains and new growth have brought with them a feeling of the approaching Advent season. The English
word for the Latin adventus means ‘coming’, and the Advent season focuses on hope, anticipation, and
preparation for the second coming of Christ. May God be pleased to deepen and sweeten your adoring of Jesus
this Advent. (Adapted from Good News of Great Joy by John Piper.)
Warm regards,
Mrs Claire Hough
Headmistress
