ACADEMIC MATTERS
CAMBRIDGE SPECIAL AWARDS
Cambridge International Education recognises its finest candidates through the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards, which celebrate the highest-performing learners in Cambridge examinations across more than forty countries.
Each pupil is measured not against his own class, but against the world. The “Top in Country” award is presented to the candidate achieving the highest mark nationally in a subject, while “High Achievement” awards recognise outstanding performance in more specialised subjects.
To earn a Top in Zimbabwe award, a pupil must achieve near-perfect marks. For example, Kudakwashe Chifamba scored 39/40, 79/80 and 40/40 across his three Biology papers — an exceptional achievement by any standard.
This year, Peterhouse Boys is proud to recognise four pupils who achieved this prestigious distinction:
- Douglas Maertens – Top in Zimbabwe, AS Level Design and Technology
- Acacia Orphanides – High Achievement Award, AS Level Design and Technology
- Kudakwashe Chifamba – Top in Zimbabwe, IGCSE Biology and IGCSE Physics
- Adrian Mudekunye – Top in Zimbabwe, IGCSE English Language
These awards reflect the academic excellence, commitment, and determination that continue to define Peterhouse.

DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S INTERNATIONAL SILVER AWARD
To achieve this award, participants must commit at least six months to developing a skill, maintaining physical activity, and serving the community through voluntary service.
They must then successfully complete a challenging self-sufficient expedition in unfamiliar terrain.
Congratulations to Michael Fowlds, who successfully earned his Duke of Edinburgh’s International Silver Award after planning, packing for, and completing a demanding three-day, two-night expedition involving white-water rafting on the Zambezi River.
This is a significant achievement and reflects Michael’s perseverance, leadership, and commitment to personal development.
