Natural History Society – Vumba Expedition

21–23 November

The Natural History Society undertook an expedition of exploration and discovery to the Vumba Mountains, with a team comprising:
Johannes Kotze, Gabriel Richards, Muhammad Wahab, Jack Love, Joshua Tanser, Riley Valintine, and David Bathurst.

Expedition Highlights

  • Collected butterflies from the renowned Witchwood Valley for the school collection
  • Explored Afro-montane forests of the Upper Vumba
  • Spotted two rare and elusive Blue Duiker
  • Collected and identified frogs, crabs, and mushrooms using reference literature
  • Enjoyed swims in pristine mountain rivers

Special thanks to Mrs Raynor for sharing her extensive knowledge, and to Mr Walraven for organising the trip.

The boys conducted themselves excellently, taking initiative in cooking and cleaning while showing strong enthusiasm for discovery.

The Society aims to undertake these expeditions each term, so all interested pupils are encouraged to sign up.
