The sight of trunks and cases around the school heralds the end of term. What a term it has been with a breadth of activity that has been quite remarkable. Over the last ten days we have gone through a number of events in which we have acknowledged the achievements of this term. Academically, one in four boys received Rectors’ Send Ups and Commendations this term. This suggests that some solid work has taken place in the classrooms. For the public examination classes, the holiday and Michaelmas term are going to be crucial in determining their final examination grades. Beyond the classroom, the school has enjoyed considerable success. Our sportsmen have given of their best, and the results are very reflective of this. Culturally, the Music Soiree and Pride and Prejudice were wonderful testaments to the depth of our music and cultural programmes
It has been, in many respects, a very good term.
2027 LEADERSHIP
Following a rigorous and testing appointment process the 2027 leadership team was announced in Assembly this week. Congratulations go to all those who have been appointed to
House and Portfolio positions. Under the guidance of Spencer Bean (Headboy) and Tafara Gara (Deputy Headboy), the prefect team will bring a wealth of leadership potential to the school.
ACADEMIC RIGOUR
School reports will be with you shortly. There is a slight delay in distribution based on the recent extended downtime of our data management system. Please read the reports carefully, particularly parents of public examination classes. There is invaluable advice in the reports, and it should offer some good reflection on academic success or otherwise this term.
We will move into examination mode from the beginning of next term, and there will be many opportunities for pupils to engage with staff to consolidate their revision. As per 2025, there will be the addition of afternoon lessons on Monday and Wednesday. Similarly, “extra lessons” are available to pupils. The public examinations start in the last week of September.
SPORT
The winter term is always demanding on our players and coaches. Notwithstanding this, our sports teams have enjoyed widespread success, and tribute must go to coaches and players for their hard work and commitment to their activities. I am sure for every boy there will be a standout moment in the term. Thanks must also go to the estates team for continuing to ensure that our facilities remain in top condition. To the Sanatorium, who tend and mends our sportsmen, we extend our sincere thanks to them for their hard work.
HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES
The holiday starts with hockey attending the Super 12 Tournament hosted by Falcon. During the holidays, there are a number of other groups going on tour. Our soccer team heads to the Midlands at the beginning of the holiday for an ATS tournament. Tennis continues with tradition and travels to Sun City in South Africa for the annual Sun City Tournament, which brings together some of South Africa’s leading tennis schools. Our cricketers will be participating in the St George’s T20 competition.
So as the msasa trees start to change colour, so too we move from one school season to another. As winter becomes spring, we acknowledge a change in our focus as the public examinations loom and the academic tempo increases.
