4th Africa Youth Games – Luanda, Angola
We are proud to report on the achievements of our Peterhouse athletes who recently represented Zimbabwe at the 4th Africa Youth Games in Luanda, Angola.
Rowing
Peterhouse had two representatives in rowing: Guy Annandale and Tungamirai Chinhamo, who formed part of a small Zimbabwean rowing team alongside two female rowers from Chisipite School. Despite consisting of only four athletes, the Zimbabwean rowing team produced an outstanding performance, winning five medals in total. Every event entered resulted in a medal, and each rower returned home with two medals.
Although the regatta was initially planned as a beach sprint event, unforeseen boat issues led to the competition being changed to a 500-metre regatta. Despite this late adjustment and unfamiliar conditions, our boys adapted exceptionally well.
Medal Results:
- Tungamirai Chinhamo – Silver, Men’s Single Scull
- Tungamirai Chinhamo & Guy Annandale – Bronze, Junior Men’s Double Scull
- Guy Annandale – Bronze, Junior Mixed Double Scull
Swimming
Peterhouse was also represented in swimming by Shingai Shumba and Callum Chisholm.
- Callum Chisholm reached a final and finished 8th in the 400m Freestyle.
- Shingai Shumba recorded strong personal best times and gained valuable international experience.
Team Conduct and Representation
Beyond the medals and results, the boys demonstrated excellent maturity, discipline, and teamwork throughout the competition. They managed demanding race schedules, recovery, hydration, and refuelling exceptionally well, while consistently supporting their teammates. Their conduct both on and off the water reflected great credit on Peterhouse and Zimbabwe.
