AS Level
This is a one-year course. Courses are assessed by examination or coursework or a combination of both. They are graded A-E.
Pupils who attain 30 points or more at IGCSE will be required to take 4 AS Levels. The fourth AS being a column 5 subject*.
IGCSE subjects are allocated points in the following manner:
(A*=6 points, A=5 points, B=4 points, C=3 points, D=2 points, E=1 point).
Pupils with less than 30 points will only do 3 AS Level subjects from columns 1-4, and none from column 5.
A Level
In the second year pupils will be required to take 3 A Level subjects. These will be a continuation of three of the AS subjects chosen from Column 1-4. The result from the AS examination is added to the A2 result to give an overall A Level grade A*-E. (each level counts as 50% of the total A level)
AS Level Only
Some subjects are offered as AS only, over two years. These are AS Mathematics and AS Biology. They allow pupils who need Mathematics and Biology for their careers, even if they do not qualify to enter for A Level Mathematics or Biology.

The Learner Hunter Guide course is a highly respected and valuable qualification administered and examined jointly by National Parks and the Zimbabwe Hunter’s Association. This course provides a comprehensive education in wildlife management, eco-tourism, and the responsible practice of hunting in Southern Africa.

AS/A Level Computer Science Entry Requirements:
At least 5 IGCSEs A*- C, including a B or above in Mathematics and a grade B or above in Computer Science/ ICT

To continue to Vth Form, pupils should have gained a C in at least 5 IGCSE subjects including English Language and Mathematics.
Pupils cannot take subjects at AS or A Level that they have failed at IGCSE.
Pupils can only do a fourth AS if they have obtained 30 points at IGCSE (A* 6, A 5, B 4, C 3, D 2, E 1).
AS Biology over two years requires a minimum of a C in EXTENDED Biology at IGCSE.
A Level Chemistry requires at least a B grade in IGCSE Chemistry.
A Level Computer Science requires:
B in IGCSE Computer Science or ICT and
B in IGCSE Mathematics.
A Level Mathematics requires at least a B grade in IGCSE Mathematics.
AS Mathematics over two years requires a minimum of a C grade in EXTENDED Mathematics at IGCSE.
A Level Physics requires:
Taking Mathematics at either AS or A Level, and
obtaining a minimum of a B in both Physics and Mathematics at IGCSE.
*Subjects in bold can be taken without having studied them at IGCSE.
Pupils take three subjects from Columns 1- 4, with no more than one subject from each column.
Everyone initially selects one subject from column 5, which will either give them an extra AS Level subject before they leave school, or will help them with their A Level studies. Pupils that get 30 points or more will be able to carry on with the chosen Column 5 subjects.
Subject choices are made in 2025, however, they are not initially binding. Acceptance into Vth Form and final subject choices will depend on the IGCSE results obtained when released in early January 2025.
It is possible to take on some subjects that have not been taken to IGCSE.

Music AS – Grade 5 theory and skilled in musical performance
Biochemistry: This is only for those wishing to take A Level Biology without having taken Chemistry to IGCSE, and is compulsory for such pupils, but is not an examinable subject, and is taken regardless of the points gained at IGCSE. Such a pupil would not be able to choose any of the remaining column 5 subjects.
French Language: A useful extra subject that will open up futures in the francophone world, and also for employment with any company that deals internationally.
English Language: Useful particularly for those pursuing sciences, maths, and practical subjects as evidence of an ability in essay writing for higher education. Also important for application to South African Universities.
Music: This is an excellent introduction to one of the performing Arts, and involves performance and musical composition. It can extend to A level in VI Form, for particularly talented pupils.
Cambridge International AS Level Global Perspectives & Research: Aims to encourage young people to think about and explore issues of global significance. Studying this syllabus will appeal to young people because it enables them to explore and make judgments about global issues of relevance and importance to their own lives. It offers learners opportunities to acquire, develop and apply skills in critical thinking, problem solving, research, communication and collaboration. In short, this course encourages the development within young people of global competency – the ability to define a global problem, reflect and take action. This syllabus is firmly based on skills rather than specific content. Through the study of a range of global issues, learners will explore different and sometimes opposing perspectives.
Recognizing these perspectives will help to nurture a climate of cross-cultural awareness and promote cultural agility. Cambridge International AS Level Global Perspectives & Research encourages transformative learning, whereby learners become more aware of their own beliefs and assumptions and more able to be self-critical. This leads to an increased willingness to modify their standpoints and be open to different views and ways of thinking.
