Overview
Peterhouse, as a Cambridge International Examination Centre, provides an internationally recognised academic program focused on rigor and excellence. This is supported by our annual pass rates at IGCSE, AS and A Levels. With our broad and well supported curriculum Peterhouse provides for a range of academic abilities.
Our highly professional, innovative and resourceful staff create dynamic learning environments where pupils are encouraged to become independent learners and thinkers! Small classes which promote imagination, problem solving and real hands-on engagement with the curriculum. Our active classroom spaces encourage pupils to be creative, accept challenge and seek solutions.
High performers are extended through project work and competitions. Participation in national and international competitions such as the Maths Olympiad, National Allied Arts, Eisteddfods and Cambridge Outstanding Learner Awards both stimulate and reward our pupils.
Oversight of the academic program rests with Directors of Studies who coordinate subject choices, syllabuses, examinations and timetables. The Director of Academic Advancement is responsible for ensuring that our teaching and learning environment is both dynamic and contemporary.
Alpha Programme
The Peterhouse Group offers a comprehensive academic support system. Springvale House, Peterhouse Girls and Peterhouse Boys provide modern, well-resourced, and comfortable learning support environments, staffed by highly trained professionals dedicated to meeting your child’s educational needs.
The ALPHA programme extends beyond additional lessons; it encompasses guidance, mentoring, and the development of complementary academic skills. Peterhouse embraces a diverse range of learning abilities and maintains a dynamic learning register to ensure systematic intervention, support, and progress for every child within our system. Our focus across the Group is on small-group, personalised learning sessions, where “drop-ins” are both welcomed and encouraged.
Early intervention is key to our Alpha Centres and our specially trained teachers begin assessing pupils as soon as they arrive at Peterhouse Boys and Peterhouse Girls to ensure that there is a structured approach for each individual that needs it.
Above all, the Alpha Centres exist to provide support, and pupils are actively encouraged to take charge of their own learning and seek assistance when needed. Peer-to-peer support groups are established at both Peterhouse Girls and Peterhouse Boys, where mentoring programmes with older pupils often achieve remarkable success. Pupils and parents are invited to consult our professional staff regarding specific learning difficulties, such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
Our staff work closely with educational psychologists to identify any disorders and implement tailored programmes that facilitate your child’s academic progress. Our systematic and effective reader/scribe programmes for examination candidates adhere to Cambridge guidelines, ensuring that pupils have the best possible chance to realise their potential in examinations.
